Accompanied by tuneful music, the dances of the late 18th and early 19th centuries combine elegance with sociability. Couple dances, country dances and set dances are the origins of most of today's social dancing in the ballroom and traditional dance repertoire.

Expert tutors will be drawing on extensive knowledge of the period to present characteristic and newly researched material from the dance archives of Europe and Britain. The repertoire allows for dancers of different levels of experience to develop skills and consolidate learning under the guidance of experienced teachers.

Morning and late afternoon classes were spent working in classes with the tutors, Anne Daye, Ellis Rogers and Jørgen Schou-Pedersen. Afternoon sessions offered a variety of workshops and the chance to work with different tutors and course members. Alongside further dances of the period, options included West Gallery choral sessions, clog dancing and melodrama. Evening activities included (in order of increasing social status) the Tupenny Hop, Parlour Party and Ball.

A selection of photographs can be seen in the the gallery.
