Una Festivita Della Danza 1500

33rd Annual Summer School, Hengrave Hall, 21st-28th July 2000

Summer School Logo

The Summer School took as its theme dance in the life of the late 15th century Italian courts. Contemporary texts were used as the basis of work undertaken in class time, and dances were carefully chosen so that whilst beginners were introduced to the style, those with more experience were presented with appropriate challenges. By the end of the week everyone had the opportunity to acquire the grace and dance skills which were the hall-marks of Castiglione's Courtier. The week promoted and encouraged discussion about interpretation and performance in relation to the contemporary texts, with particular reference to that of Giorgio. The course culminated in a "festività" - a celebration of the week's experiences.

On the Saturday evening members of the Dolmetsch family and give a recital. During the week, Dr Simon Thurley, Director of the Museum of London, gave a talk about his specialist study of the Royal Palaces of Tudor England.

There are a few pictures in the gallery.
