Demonstrations and Workshops

Saturday and Sunday, 19 and 20 March 2011
This conference will explore the relationship between dance and music. The focus will be on Europe before 1850, but proposals dealing with influences from other parts of the world and later periods will be welcome. Topics may range over court, country and theatre and from classical through popular to folk dance and music. Aspects to be addressed might include:
- tempo, rhythm and ornamentation in dance and music;
- dance types and their musical equivalents;
- understanding music as a dancer;
- playing for dancers;
- reconstructing dance and music.
Papers, demonstrations and workshops on any topic or aspect investigating and illuminating the relationship between dance and music are warmly invited.
Spoken papers and demonstrations should be no longer than 25 minutes, unless specially negotiated otherwise. Workshops may take up to 55 minutes. The proposal should state how long is required.
